Student project to make an motion graphic for a random artists album. I got the album "Adventure" by Shonen Knife, a pop-punk album, and decided to lay out some visuals and themes that came to mind when listening to the music. I explored a range of different types of visual experiments from mark making whilst listening to the music to drawing out shapes and patterns that the tones in the music reminded me of. Overall the music is like a fusion of classic rock with a bright futuristic Japanese twist and that's what made it stand out for me.
I decided to play with the idea of contrast combined with bright colours and futuristic patterns and this led me to designs utilising optical illusions to for motion as seen below. I then experimented with Risograph printing and the bright, fluorescent colours I could create using this printing method. The frames had to be individually printed from a master on both blue and pink to create this looping GIF when overprinted on each other. It also created a nice layered 3D effect from the overlap of the layers. This led to the creation of these final motion designs and also an Album Cover featured in another Behance post.
